Koen De Preter - Research/Beurs 2025
24.11.2025 — 28.11.2025
Choreographer Koen De Preter is deepening his movement language in a research project involving intensive collaborations with other choreographers.
This residency is part of a grant for proven talent from the Flemish Government. In 2025, I want to take a year of rejuvenation and artistic deepening, focused on dancing again myself after five years of choreographing group pieces. In addition to solo reflection, this plan includes intensive collaboration with choreographers Daniel Linehan, Lisbeth Gruwez, Philipp Gehmacher and Maria Ibarretxe, each of whom has a different approach and artistic language. By working with these diverse voices, I want to deepen my movement language and discover new connections. This is my first residency of the project, with Daniel Linehan.
Koen De Preter (Bonheiden, 1981) graduated from the Fontys Dance Academy in Tilburg in 2002. As a dancer, he worked for choreographers Sasha Waltz and Raimund Hoghe. Since 2004, he has been creating his own choreographies, initially solo or in duet (e.g. We dance to forget and Journey), and since 2014 group choreographies for companies such as fABULEUS, Theater Stap and Het Gevolg. In his most recent productions — Tender Men, followfollow, Adagiae and 15 Pieces — he worked with very diverse groups of dancers, ranging from professional dancers to amateur performers aged 12 to 70, including people with disabilities.
