Maika Garnica - Llevar

15.06.2026 — 18.06.2026

The development project Llevar (Spanish for 'to carry') starts from Garnica's desire to explicitly investigate the hidden cultural layers in her work. The title refers not only to the physical carrying of objects, but also to carrying memories, passing on knowledge and carrying heritage and identity.

In this project, clay is key as a material that can make our connection with the earth visible and audible. Garnica investigates how the cultural differences between Belgium and Bolivia, in their experience of nature, clay and sound, can translate into a visual and auditive language. That way Llevar becomes an investigation into what we carry and what carries us.
