Tuur & Flup Marinus & Ariadna Estalella Alba - Research 2025
24.03.2025 — 28.03.2025
An examination of participatory performance and the distinction between audience engagement and presentation
During this residency, we want to conduct some experiments in our research on participatory performance.
We do not see performances as stand-alone events, but as intermediate spaces that intensify interactions with the environment.
We try to develop work that can simultaneously be seen as a public effect and a work of art.
Art institutes usually make a strict distinction between public effect and art presentation, with everything concerning art presentation being hierarchically above public effect.
In this research, we want to investigate whether we can create work that problematises and abolishes this hierarchical distinction. We focus on participatory (choreographic) events that are simultaneously forms of art and public activities.
Artists: Tuur Marinus, Flup Marinus, Ariadna Estalella Alba
Dancer-choreographer Tuur Marinus studied painting at Sint-Lucas (Antwerp) and contemporary dance at P.A.R.T.S (Brussels). In his performances, he explores the relationship between choreography and power relations.
Flup Marinus studied audiovisual arts at RITCS (Brussels) and visual arts (cartooning) at LUCA (Brussels). He humorously explores the intersections between masculinity and monumentality.
Since moving to Antwerp, Ariadna Estalella Alba has been involved in several artistic organisations of contemporary art and performance: WpZimmer, WorkSpaceBrussels, STORMOPKOMST, De Veerman and NICC, among others.
