Steven Michel & GRIP - GHOSTBUSTERS (working title)
09.12.2024 — 20.12.2024
Steven Michel works on a new project inspired by Derrida's idea of "hauntology"
Steven Michel has collaborated with choreographers, theatre, and film directors like David Zambrano, Lukas Dhont, and Jan Martens.
Alongside performing, Steven developed his choreographic practice, creating ± Even but Odd (2009) with Nicholas Aphane, which explores rhythm and body percussion, and The Desert of Milestones (2010), a solo that combines musical scores with movement. He collaborated with Marcus Baldemar on Model (2012), inspired by Robert Bresson’s Notes on the Cinematographer, blending choreography with filmic principles.
In 2014, he researched “audio-vision,” resulting in THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS (2016), a synesthetic performance uniting light, sound, and movement. In Affordable solution for better living (2018), he and artist Théo Mercier examined themes of standardized bodies, winning the Silver Lion at the Venice Dance Biennale 2019. DATADREAM (2021) delves into technology’s impact on the body and psyche.
Currently, Steven tours with VOICE NOISE and Heliosfera and is developing GHOSTBUSTERS (2025), exploring “hauntology.” He is one of GRIP’s artistic leaders, alongside Femke Gyselinck, Jan Martens, and Cherish Menzo.
