Deep Etude
As in phenomenology, Swedish choreographer Alma Söderberg relies on her intuition and physical experience to fathom reality. Her dance practice contemplates the connection between language, voice and rhythm. Deep Etude investigates the possibilities of rhythm and more specifically polyrhythm, where different rhythms simultaneously overlap. The result is both a dance and a music piece that plays with the spectator’s eyes and ears. The interplay of voice, movement and electronic sounds by sound artist LeChat W. DeHendrik creates a complex composition in which visual perception seems inextricably linked to the auditory. While she is her own instrument, Alma Söderberg impressively explores how rhythm manifests within the body. Deep Etude is simultaneously a plea for multiple voices.
The performance is preceded by the free screening of Esta puerta, esta ventana by Spanish filmmaker Alex Reynolds, a short film with dancer Alma Söderberg and musician Nilo Galego. 19:15 in Cinema ZED STUK.
