A Nature-Engaged Process

Eva Pfannes is a German architect and urban designer, and co-founder of the international office OOZE, based in Rotterdam. OOZE focuses on finding harmony between human activities and natural systems, exploring how art, architecture and activism come together in designs that enhance both ecological and urban contexts.

Eva Pfannes embraces architecture as a broad and dynamic process that follows the cyclical rhythms of nature and life. In OOZE's designs, natural elements such as water and soil are given an active role. This results in projects such as The City of 1,000 Tanks - Water Balance Pilot, in which OOZE realises a spatial intervention in India that, as a demonstrative design, shows how hydrological systems can be restored and can be made resilient again. The project approaches architecture as a discipline closely linked to the natural environment as well as the political climate. The work of OOZE brings together research and innovation in tangible interventions that poetically invite local residents to participate in a process of urban nature regeneration.

AUDITORIUM 24/25 – ARCHITECTING. Architecture as a process

Lecture series on architecture and urbanism
Curator: Hanne Van Reusel, Stad & Architectuur

When does architecture begin and does it ever end? Who participates, and how? Where does it go wrong? What role do improvisation and intuition play? And how can architecture rebel?

This lecture series explores architecture-in all its power and vulnerability-as an open and dynamic process. The focus is on the less visible aspects of practice, from idea to execution, and everything in between and beyond. Each of the guest speakers shares their vision and process in an unfiltered way, aiming to offer insights into the complexity and fragility of architectural work.
