A Productive Process

Daniel Niggli is a Swiss architect and co-founder of the renowned architecture firm EM2N, based in Zurich and Berlin. Together with his partner Mathias Müller, Niggli has developed EM2N into a leading practice focusing on complex urban transformation processes. With a deep-rooted interest in the city as a vibrant, contradictory and, above all, productive space for human life, Niggli has developed a unique vision of urban and architectural design processes over the years.

EM2N has developed an approach that links vision, conceptual frameworks and practical implementation. This approach adopts a dynamic approach to the urban living environment. Trust, attention to residents' perceptions, recognition of the past and respect for complexity translate into an idealistic pragmatism that builds on the existing. With insights gained from their recent publication The City Factory, Daniel Niggli is ready to share the lessons learned and their progressive understanding of the city as a constantly changing and dynamic productive being.

AUDITORIUM 24/25 – ARCHITECTING. Architecture as a process

Lecture series on architecture and urbanism
Curator: Hanne Van Reusel, Stad & Architectuur

When does architecture begin and does it ever end? Who participates, and how? Where does it go wrong? What role do improvisation and intuition play? And how can architecture rebel?

This lecture series explores architecture-in all its power and vulnerability-as an open and dynamic process. The focus is on the less visible aspects of practice, from idea to execution, and everything in between and beyond. Each of the guest speakers shares their vision and process in an unfiltered way, aiming to offer insights into the complexity and fragility of architectural work.
