Amber Meulenijzer – Holding Shadows

In her work, Belgian sound artist Amber Meulenijzer explores the relationship between sound and space. She does the same in her new installation, Holding Shadows, created during residencies at STUK. An installation consisting of eight street lights, hanging from the ceiling. The sculptures form an uncanny embrace, inviting you to come closer and find your place in this monochromatic landscape. A lingering presence hiding in the shadows, luring you in. These lights feel awkwardly familiar, yet the setting reminds us of a constellation unknown. The sound makes us sense they are communicating in their own buzzing language. Electricity made audible, singing along a composition tuned to the shifting shape of the room.
