Lies Daenen

Artist talk

Lies Daenen (°1966, BE) works at the intersection of art and ritual practice. In her work, she questions the anthropocentric worldview and evokes a universe in which all life is equal and interconnected — in right relation. With delicate multimedia works on paper, installations, and interactive projects, she brings forth this soulful universe. In her work with trees, she invites viewers and participants—driven by a desire for interaction—to experience a renewed relationship with nature together. This relationship is meant to function as a foundation for personal and collective healing — for and with each other, and the earth.

In this Artist Talk, Lies Daenen delves deeper into the relationship between her work as an artist on the one hand, and her experience with rituals, reiki, mysticism, and shamanic practices on the other. Her installation Rising Trees is part of the Artefact exhibition.
