Lithuanian composer Augustė Vickunaitė lives and works in Brussels. She focuses on analog tape recorders, unraveling this old technology, assembling it, and contrasting it with voice, objects, and other instruments. Crackling recordings, grinding noise and fragments of music come together in energetic performances with nods to theater and (dark) humor. In her new creation Le poids de la journée, she literally uses her body, her hands, arms and feet to play tape loops. Sound thus becomes an extension of her body, as she seems to transfer her energy to the music. At the same time, she struggles with this unstable system. Eventually, she will exhaust her strength and collapse, causing the tapes and the sound to fade away.
