Ben Rivers & Christina Vantzou

Electroacoustic composer Christina Vantzou is no stranger to STUK. Last November she presented her latest album N°5 in Studio STUK Manhattan. On October 12th we welcome her again for a live performance of the score she composed for Ben Rivers’ Look Then Below.

In this film, Rivers conjures futuristic beings from an eerie smoke filled landscape and the depths of the earth. The film was shot in the vast, dark passages of Wookey Hole Caves in Somerset. The netherworld of chambers, carved out over deep time, once held remnants of lost civilisations, now foretell a future subterranean world, occupied by a species evolved from our environmentally challenged world.

Be prepared to be taken away by the affective spaces Vantzou is known to create, with the sounds of a choir, synthesizers, effervescent strings and electronics; a perfect match to Rivers’ otherworldly cinematic spaces.
