With his debut single “The Worst Parts of You,” Birame immediately became a finalist in De Nieuwe Lichting, but behind that early recognition is an artist who refuses to be confined to a single box. For Birame, music is a way to explore the tensions between his queer identity and his Senegalese background. He absorbs influences from the peculiar sounds of semi-niche R&B and pop icons such as Solange, Sampha, FKA twigs and Björk.
