Clarice Calvo-Pinsolle – Symphonie d’une Combustion

French artist and composer Clarice Calvo-Pinsolle (a.k.a. Lamina), who lives in Brussels, creates mysterious sculptures using fragile materials such as glass, ceramics, water, or smoke, often inspired by nature and her own inner emotional world. In her new installation Symphonie d’une Combustion, she sketches a dystopian vision of the future with extreme climatic conditions in which it is so hot that every drop evaporates instantly. Plants have mutated into shriveled organisms that cry out for cooling with their boiling sap. This image was the basis for a sculpture consisting of blown glass objects that appear to hang like branches from a metal tree. Water droplets fall from the glass forms onto red-hot plates. The hissing sound of the evaporating water droplets is the basis for a musical composition that sounds partly acoustic and partly amplified through four loudspeakers. Sensors that measure temperature and humidity also influence the electronic transformation of the sound, creating an ever-evolving soundscape.
