DEMONstratio
In 2015, an X-ray revealed that the famous Black Square by Kasimir Malevitsj (1915) carried a racist inscription hidden beneath layers of paint. Not even abstract art appears to be free of politics. It is precisely this tension the three black performers are concerned with in DEMONstratio. Within the sleek lines of a perfectly lit square, they seek an incantatory counterbalance in the subconscious power of voice and movement. Light and dark, reason and feeling, certainty and uncertainty: sharp binary opposites are there to transcend them.
