Using hip-hop and postmodern influences, Toukabri explores how and why we move
From hip-hop to postmodernism, from the personal to the political, Mohamed Toukabri’s work is a meeting place of different worlds. Now, he turns his sharp choreographic eye to dance itself – who moves, how, and why? With an urgent call to decolonise the imagination, he carves out a space where dance traditions don’t compete but converse, where footwork flows effortlessly into weight shifts, and where virtuosity and vulnerability are inseparable. This is not fusion – it’s friction, dialogue, and coexistence.
The title is both a provocation and a reminder: the weight of history moves with us, and tomorrow’s dance is shaped by today’s choices. What do we carry forward? What do we erase? What do we uphold?
