RESOLVE COLLECTIVE

Everything must go!

What happens when material waste becomes the starting point for design?

Melissa Haniff of RESOLVE Collective introduces Tipping Point East, a circular construction hub, and its Material Store initiative redistributing materials to local communities. She unpacks how reuse and community-focused practice can radically reimagine the built environment and open practical, everyday paths into climate action and inclusive urbanism. Come explore what’s next when everything goes.

RESOLVE collective works nationally and internationally with the ambition to provide platforms for the production of new knowledge and ideas through design,  specifically with and for marginalised communities. Their interventions all look toward realising just and equitable visions of change in our built environment.

The lecture will describe the partnership with Material Cultures and Yes Make to form Tipping Point East (TPE), a circular construction hub based in Newham, East London. Together, they champion material reuse, low-carbon construction, training and cultural activity to support a just transition in the built environment. The aim is to create practical, everyday entry points into climate action rooted in local need.

At TPE, RESOLVE has recently launched Material Store, where materials from creative and cultural institutions are redistributed to community and creative practitioners under an affordable membership scheme. This is both a practical service and an invitation to vision for the future. How does design change with material re-use and community in mind? What does it mean to radically reimagine with community focussed practitioners? How can you think beyond materials afterlife and when everything goes, what next?’

Melissa Haniff is one of the directors of RESOLVE Collective, an interdisciplinary design collective at the intersection of art, architecture, design and technology to address social challenges. Their project portfolio ranges from architecture/urban design projects, community support work, artist installations and research publications.

AUDITORIUM 26/27

Lecture series about architecture and urban planning.

NEW! – the idea that true innovation often stems from rediscovering old knowledge, forgotten materials and overlooked
perspectives.

What do we really mean by ‘new’? Maybe we have experienced it before? Perhaps genuine innovation lies not in the unprecedented, but in rethinking what we have left behind. Not as nostalgia, but as a fresh understanding of knowledge, materials and practices — and how they can reshape what we build, make and think.
