Jazz op zondag: 3'Ain

Contemporary jazz with oriental influences mixes the atmosphere of Ostend with sounds of the Middle East

3'Ain is a trio consisting of Yamen Martini (trumpet), Otto Kint (double bass) and Piet Maris (accordion), who join forces to play global jazz with influences from the Swana (Middle East) region. Yamen, from Syria, came to Belgium in 2015, where he met Piet. Their collaboration began in 2016 for a theatre performance, and later Yamen played as a guest musician with Jaune Toujours. In 2019, Otto joined and 3'Ain was formed. The band's name is inspired by the eighteenth letter in the Arabic alphabet (ع), often rendered as ‘3’ in digital communication. 3'Ain brings contemporary jazz with oriental influences, and their music reflects the atmosphere of Ostend, where they regularly work and create. In May 2020, they released their first EP on their own label, Choux de Bruxelles, followed by their debut album Sea of Stories in 2023.
