Concrete Studies I is a sound installation in which seven concrete objects are set into vibration. These sound vibrations are picked up by surrounding microphones, creating a feedback loop: a sound process that generates itself and constantly changes. The soundscape that this creates is subtly interwoven with recordings of underground infrastructures from the city and concrete as a building material. This leads Lotte and Gillis to ask themselves: how lifeless is a concrete landscape? And what makes something a living organism?
