Once
A playful duet between father and daughter, full of imagination and vulnerability.
Once is a unique duet between actor and father Herwig Ilegems and his daughter and dancer Kika. In a timeless and poetic world of imagination, they explore their shared sense of beauty, vulnerability, and humour.
Across four sections, they work with objects and costumes by visual artist Dirk Hendrikx. A duet with wings, for example, tells a simple story of togetherness and loneliness, of decline and growth. The whimsical play between a father and a daughter reveals the poetic truths of daily life.
What stands out most is how differently the dancer and the actor approach it. She moves more horizontally, circling, occupying space like planets do, searching for her own elegant orbit and a separate world. He works more vertically, as a fixed point in space, a lonely clown directly addressing the audience, fishing for laughter.
