Contemporary clowning is often limited to a game of static forms and figures. In Please (don’t) let me be (mis)understood, Geert Belpaeme returns to the core of clowning. This choreographic deconstruction of the clown aims to explore this figure’s rich potential. Through clowning, Belpaeme explores what it means to be human. How can we adopt a less aggressive position towards other organisms, ecosystems and objects? A physical creation by 3 performers about non-human relationships versus human bodies and vice versa.

Geert Belpaeme a theatre maker, performer, and teacher and researcher at KASK in Ghent. His performances mix theater, circus, performance, dance and philosophical experiment. Playfulness and abstraction coming from an uninhibited imagination are the main threads in al of his projects. His artistic language reminds of a minimalist form of clowning and plays with the view and expectation of the viewer. Please (don’t) let me be (mis)understood he is the first time Geert puts the figure of the clown explicitly in the centre of the performance.
