Tiro-Tora
A powerful, physical performance about vulnerability, support, and resilience that hits like a knockout.
On stage you see a group of 34 performers. They confront themselves in a personal struggle. The performance Tiro-Tora, also a taekwondo term for ‘turning point’, is devised around the questions: ‘When did you ask for help?’ and ‘When did you receive no help, or the wrong kind of help?’
The performers on stage are from Tartaren, a company with non-professional makers from underrepresented backgrounds, and the Katarsis Centre for addiction care. Their stories take shape in an inventive and collective physicality, through which the very personal experience of being alone, finding others, and breaking through judgements unfurls. The result is a powerful, physical performance that leaves you knocked out.
Tiro-Tora strives for a level of abstraction rarely seen today—especially within socially engaged theatre. This is the participatory production of the season. – Wouter Hillaert for pzazz
