Bosse Provoost & Ezra Veldhuis - As Seen From Mars (working title)
This residency in STUK is the first period of work for Ezra Veldhuis & Bosse Provoost's new light installation. The starting point for the installation is the Blue sunset on Mars, combined with space junk of broken or discarded space material. In specific terms, they will work with long strips of coloured light filters that are played in front of a lamp.
TEAM
Bosse Provoost & Ezra Veldhuis
Ezra Veldhuis (°1991, NL) is a visual artist. She has a hybrid practice, with light as central material and subject. She makes installations with monumental paintings, paints films on pellicle and works on performances and theatre plays, mainly as a scenographer and light designer. At the moment she and Bosse Provoost are working on Indoor Weather, a new performance that turns the theatre into an ever-changing hybrid environment, inspired by eco science fiction. Early 2020 she and Bosse created SUN-SET, an installation performance where a theatre venue is in constant transformation. In SUN-SET, the evocative working of light and darkness on the audience is key. She also created the light design and scenography of the performance Matisklo, and exhibited her work in among others In de Ruimte in Ghent, Concertgebouw Bruges, MSK Ghent and Plagia Rama Brussels.
Bosse Provoost (°1993, BE) graduated in Drama at the School of Arts|KASK Ghent. He now works as a theatre maker for Toneelhuis Antwerp. His work radically chooses for 'a theatre of the sensorial under-stimulation'. He created compositions of light and atmospheric transitions, silences and semi-human figures. His first performances were made with Kobe Chielens, investigating the physical language of cartoon figures. More recent works explore the area between theatre, performance and installation art. Theatre spaces are activated into 'environments' where everything in a venue has the ability to speak. Early 2020 he and Ezra Veldhuis created SUN-SET, an installation performance where a theatre venue is in constant transformation. In SUN-SET, the evocative working of light and darkness on the audience is key. Before, he made Matisklo (2018), a challenging search for what is depictable and pronouncable in the pitch-dark poems by Jewish-Romanian poet Paul Celan. At the moment he and Ezra work on the performance Indoor Weather, set to premiere in 2021 during Love at First Sight (Antwerp).
