Roxane Métayer - Appareils Sporophoniques

“The residency will be a research to achieve a dialogue between the violin and my ‘Appareils sporophoniques’. On the one hand I will create a composition with sounds that will be emitted by the violin and by these Appareils Sporophoniques, on the other hand I will think about the possibilities of staging, of a choreography and of movements between sounds.” - Roxane Métayer

Roxane Métayer is a French-born, Brussels-based musician and visual artist. As violinist and composer she released several albums on Kraak and Vlek, and played in venues such as Meakusma, Botanique and Les Atelier Claus. Recently Métayer has been investigating the relation between her musical and visual practice. She has created ceramic sound sculptures ('The Appareils Sporophoniques’) that she uses for installations and performances. In STUK she wants to investigate how her live violin performances can be connected with the sound sculptures. This wil result in an installation concert in Studio STUK Manhattan on May 11 2023, during the sixth edition of Beyond Music.
