Fugue / Trampoline (video)
➤ STUK Binnenplein
➤ Donderdag 14.09 - 19:00 - 2:00
➤ Vrijdag 15.09 - 19:00 - 5:00
➤ Duur: 7' (in loop)

Yoann Bourgeois is a French choreographer, dancer and artist who has long been fascinated by the ideas of weightlessness and the physics of suspension. In his practice he constantly strives to break the boundaries between artistic approaches. An expert in using trampolines and autonomous devices that amplify physical phenomena through inventive, poetic, circus-inspired contemporary dance, his works strongly depict a fascination with gravity. This often results in site-specific installations that defy the forces of physical strength. Bourgeois tirelessly explores and reinvents his favorite themes, especially gravity and vertigo, inspired by and in accordance with the surrounding environment. Each creation takes on the dimension of a microcosm of continuous movement, a symbolic balancing act of life as heartstopping as it is hypnotic. A process of creation he describes himself as 'the unreachable suspension point'. Bourgeois was trained in trampoline, juggling and trapeze at the Centre National des Arts du Cirque and in dance at the Centre National de Danse Contemporaine. After having performed with several renowned choreographers, Bourgeois created his own company in 2010. From 2016 to 2022, he co-directed the Centre Chorégraphique National de Grenoble, becoming the first circus-trained artist to lead one of France’s 19 National Choreographic Centres. Today he continues his artistic development through creations, collaborations and workshops around the world.
