Bert Cools + Voetvolk/Lisbeth Gruwez [sold out]
Unique double bill of dance and music, with praised performance by dancer Lisbeth Gruwez and the unearthly guitar sounds of Bert Cools.
Bert Cools is a man of many talents. He and his brother Stijn curate the art platform ‘granvat’ and he plays in bands like Merope, Hoera., Book of air vvolk and Fieldtone. Next to that, he has recently joined Danish indie heroes Efterklang and American artist Sam Amidon. In STUK he will play solo, creating a guitar-based dreamworld of soundscapes, beats and synths.
Lisbeth Gruwez dances Penelope, an ode to all suppressed women of the Odyssee. Pushed by a hypnotizing and pumping score by Maarten Van Cauwenberghe, her artistic partner in crime at Voetvolk, the dancer circles around like a living spinnig top. Together they want to solidify time (for a while). Penelope was created as an epilogue for the KVS’ Odysseus, a 24-hour piece that saw 24 male actors tell the entire story of Homer’s Odyssey. In a wordless response of pure and powerful simplicity, Gruwez gives a proper reply to all those men.
