Graduation Works
The dancers and choreographers from P.A.R.T.S. Studios, the master's programme at the Brussels contemporary dance school directed by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, share their graduation work. For two years, twelve young choreographers and dance makers from all corners of the world followed a trajectory in which they developed their own research and creations. Spread over two evenings STUK presents about six projects. Come meet these young wolves.
TRAFFIC MEASURES ON FRIDAY
The pope visits Leuven on Friday, which means the areas around the Saint-Peter's Church, Grote Markt and parts of the Naamsestraat and Bondgenotenlaan will be difficult to access. If you are coming to STUK by train and walk/cycle to STUK, take the route via Ladeuzeplein and Sint-Donatuspark.

Urtė Groblytė & Judith Dhondt / A Lovely Construction Site
I hold it my love don’t worry I am only hovering and it’s so quiet shh it’s oh so dark in my organs and then I am gone I need you to hold me baby for me to be gone I hold it I love it I love me with it if not my bones you wouldn’t be so love me in little slices cut me open so I keep bleeding and I am a body less is endless notice me take my hand what are we? Strangers when hands estranged un-break the heart if that’s what you call it Knowing oh my beloved chainsaw if only I could melt your heart.
The project, which started as in memoriam to the tree, now lingers between disgust with and attraction to the tool that hurts. By working with a dangerous object, we question a desire that leaves you gone, alloyed with fear and excitement. And so we meet in a chain-full place - through flesh and voice - taste of metal. We converse with the object and metaphor of the chainsaw, till the distinction disappears.

A leaf a gourd a shell a net
A bag a sling a sack a bottle
A pot a box a container.
A holder. A recipient.
How to transform a performative space into a container? An embroidery of care, live electronic sound, bodies sharing energies in motion, love, softness, joy, playfulness, transparency, fiction, and fiction, and fiction. A space that holds all the inner worlds present in the space, in order to connect with their complexities.

Ching Shu Huang / Prompt: It sucks (?)
What sucks you here?" is always the first question people ask me.”
“Prompt*: generate an image with a person eating a bunch of snacks, no Asian porn.
“Prompt: a snail migrating 300 centimeters from the edge of a sidewalk to its death in the middle of it."
"Prompt: a plastic bag flies overseas and gets stuck in institutional trouble.”
"Prompt: a vacuum that fell in love with an inflatable thing.”
This project attempts to gather questions of migrated bodies and performs its own process of soothing and homing. It allows playful and foolish attributes to prompt our power of fantasizing a possible future to return to.
*Prompt:
An AI Prompt is any form of text, question, information, or coding that communicates to AI what response you're looking for. It is prepared to meet demands and actions that fulfill (or fail) one's fantasies and imaginations

FRIDAY 27.09
Im Kanokporn Vorapharuek / when ashes spiral
When ashes spiral, the human self is decentered into a transformative realm - a liminal environment where fluid beings rise, linger, and collapse. This cycle of transformation travels through states of detachment in mind and body. We engage in an animistic outlook in an attempt to free the fixed self to become multiple and changing. Rigid social constructions become watery and energies flow through different forms. How can we seep through the containers of our skin? When seeing the animate and the inanimate as a spectrum, what drifts in between? We celebrate impermanent natures and fleeting identities.

Adem Ouhaibia / Shaharazad
Shaharazad deals with movement methods of hip hop in the realm of contemporary dance. We researched how these methods can be translated and transformed considering peoples different backgrounds and knowledge. The result of this research was the practice “Breaking technologies- the five elements of breaking” and the performance practice Shaharazad.
The work talks about creating and leaving traces as recordings of the past but also imagination of the future. It questions how to read dance and share it with a diverse audience. Inspired by Roland Barthes’ idea of "The Death of the Author", we concentrate on different experiences that come together, drift apart or shift around. How far is this accessible to an outsider? Just like the audience, the performers and the creators speak different languages but also have things in common. They have a shared interest in the arts and in dance, guided by a web of knowledge and pathways that had been acquired and lived. We are imagining the future, and this piece is part of it.
The friction between the so-called ‘high art’ (contemporary dance) and ‘low art’ (hip hop) is part of the future we will imagine.

Géraldine Haas / An Awkward Friend
How can one's body recall grievous experiences and let emotions resurface whithin a liminal space between dream and reality?
An Awkward Friend is a sensorial attempt to draw nearer to the embodied sensations and memories around the loss of my father. With the complicity of my friend Ine, we create imaginary spaces for discomfort and uncanniness to emerge and resonate, for ghosts to appear, and for time to flow, expand and sometimes collapse.
