Queer Arts Festival Leuven: Opening Night
The second Queer Arts Festival kicks off with an exuberant party in STUK
Queer Leuven opens the second edition of their Queer Arts Festival with a lavish party at STUK. Welcome to the Gentle Boys Club where stereotypical gender roles are questioned with an anti-patriarchal slow dance workshop by Lisa Vereertbrugghen. Musicians Porcelain ID and Youniss get the party started with an ode to one of the greatest pop icons ever: Prince. The duo will perform an extravagant reworking of 1984's legendary Purple Rain. Meanwhile, you can visit Uzbek filmmaker and artist Saodat Ismailova's gorgeous audiovisual gems in her first solo exhibition in Belgium. Or how about American artist Martine Gutierrez's video work on gender identity and personal transformation? Afterwards, the roof goes off in STUKcafé with the Gentle Boys Drag Show and DJ Straight Again and Georgy Chtchevaev. Let's Go Crazy!
Have you always wanted to experiment with gender roles?
Come however you want: in your best suit, on high heels, with a wig or in drag - you choose!

Everyone who takes part in this event (and/or connected activities) agrees to these guidelines:
1. Everyone belongs
Nobody is excluded on the basis gender identity, sexual orientation, skin colour, impairment, age, neurodivergence, religion, language, origin, status or class. Discrimination or exclusion (eg. racism, sexism, ableism, transphobia, homophobia, ...) are not tolerated and can be identified and addressed. Always report this!
2. Ask first
Consent is essential. Always ask explicit consent:
• for touch,
• for photos or videos,
• for conversations or dancing.
Only yes means yes. Now answer or doubt means no.
3. Be mindful of your impact
• Do not make belittling, sexual or stigmatising remarks.
• Alcohol or other substances are never an excuse for inappropriate behaviour.
• Avoid microagressions, even if "you mean well".
4. See, speak, care
Do you see something happening that is not ok? Talk to someone, alert an employee (recognisable by their badge, t-shirt or vest). There is a care zone - a calm and supporting space where you can take a breath, take some distance or recover from stimulation, emotions or any difficult situation.
5. Participation means consent
Everyone who takes part in this event is expected to agree with these rules. In this way, we build a space together in which care, respect and safety are central.
DISCLAIMER: Participation in this festival is entirely at your own risk. The organisation cannot be held liable for accidents, physical or material damage, loss or theft of personal belongings. Every participant is personally responsible for their behaviour and actions. If necessary, the participant's personal (family) insurance will be called upon.
