Roundabout #1: Tsubasa Hori (6+)

Step inside this enchanting mini-arena with Japanese percussion and mysterious animated images.

Welcome to roundABOUT. The new mini arena by Zonzo Compagnie opens its doors for the first time. It's a round magic box, hosting a small audience and a soloist, literally surrounded by video and sound.

The first person to enter the arena is Japanese percussionist Tsubasa Hori. Her world is that of the Taiko drum, but she plays a ton of other instruments. She sings songs and tells stories while accompanying herself on the Shamisen.

Her starting point is the Bon dance: a colourful, festive ritual honouring the empire of the spirits, of the ancestors, which is celebrated extensively in Japan. With video projections by Sarah Yu Zeebroek and Willem Mertens she evokes a magical world, a roundabout of changes and metamorphoses. German choreographer Vera Tussing is in charge of the dramaturgy and assists Tsubasa in the choreography and direction.
