Slow Space - Slow Motion

Creating space and getting people moving. Destination: new future. That is the dream that keeps Tom Callebaut, founder of design office TC PLUS, awake. From the unusual conviction that interior architecture is also a journey. An intense and adventurous process, rather than a goal in itself. For each project TC PLUS brings together a team of experts who together strive for more. To a space that connects. That originates from trust and grows with the imagination. Layer by layer, in the fold or out of the fold, but always lending itself to development. Until that new future even surpasses the dream.

For Tom Callebaut of TC PLUS, interior architecture is closely linked to rapidly changing times. He doesn't try to defy time, but to deal with it. To tackle the speed of a project with the slowness of a process. A process of bubbling dreams, intense research and changing places. He wants to create spatial contexts that touch people, stimulate interactions and open up new possibilities. In search of more colour in life. Linear thinking, with a logical structure from start to finish, is not important here. It is about interactions between people, form and identity, and about different activities: from researching to inventing, building, experiencing and reflecting.

TC PLUS was founded in 1997 in Ghent and gained recognition through the Magdalena Church in Bruges, De Kapel van de Ontluiking in Groot-Bijgaarden and the G-Lab in Bruges. The G-Lab is the place where Tom Callebaut lives with his family, but it is also a public exercise space in hospitality and the output of his doctorate at the KU Leuven on 'the generous space, a concept for a world in motion'. TC PLUS currently focuses on the design of generous spaces, both in Flanders and in Nepal, Congo, Uganda, Greenland and the Netherlands.

AUDITORIUM 21/22 – SLOW SPACE
lecture series on architecture, urban planning and design

How does slowness manifest itself in space? What does a slow process look like? Can we resist fastness? Can we resist thinking about time and space as a commodity? How to tell a story about slow space? Who are the protagonists (anti-heroes) of this story? Is there a Slow Movement rising? Who are the designers and artists that care about slowness? How do they do it? What is the right slow attitude? The perfect slow setting? Best slow vibes?
