Espen Hjort & Mees Borgman I Landmarks

Stonework

Stonework is a physical and musical duet between performer Mees Borgman and a stone from the mountain area Hallingskarvet in Norway. The performance is a search for a radical equivalence between man and stone. How do you communicate with a stone? What can we do for a stone? And what memories or fantasies does a stone have?

Gravity, touch and vibrations are starting points in this playful, poetic work. The human audience is invited to reflect on existence from a stone perspective. What can the stone teach us about time, softness and dedication? What would a more equivalent relation with the planet look like?

Based on the unique vibration sof the stone, Seán ó Dálaigh (IE) composed a soundscape that further investigates how it would feel to have the body of a stone.

Stonework (2022) is a performance from the makers duo Espen Hjort (NO) & Mees Borgman (NL). As Landmarks they make performances that look further than mankind, from a fascination for ecologic questions. After Stonework follows Treework (2024) and Mountainwork (2025).
