Marc Vanrunxt - Freie Form

Creation period for new dance performance Freie Form, which sees Marc Vanunxt and Samantha van Wissen working together.

It was only a matter of time before Marc Vanrunxt and dancer Samantha van Wissen (Rosas, Cie Zoo) would meet. Indeed, both have long been curious about each other's practice. Now they join forces in a dance piece about different generations of dancers, dance identities, energy and how to 'shape' all this.

Vanrunxt wants to raise the tension between dance and choreography. Who is a dancer, who choreographs and 'thinks' the dance and where do the two come together? Where does the choreographer draw the dance and where does the dancer?

Also on stage is mezzo-soprano and composer Els Mondelaers, with whom Vanrunxt has already regularly collaborated in creations such as My Body of Yours, lostmovements and most recently Hyena Hyena and 4.48. In Freie Form, Els ventures into a handful of pieces for voice by Morton Feldman, songs by Yoko Ono and a 'smartlap' or two. The team is further joined by Igor Shyshko, Ezra Veldhuis & Bosse Provoost (of Indoor Weather, among others) and Stef Alleweireldt.

Samantha van Wissen
°1970, Roermond

Samantha van Wissen (Roermond, 1970) is a Dutch dancer best known for her work with Brussels-based choreographers Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker / Rosas and Thomas Hauert / ZOO.

She studied at the Hogeschool voor Muziek en Theater Rotterdam (since 2000 renamed Codarts - hogeschool voor de kunsten). Afterwards, she moved to Brussels and joined Rosas, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker's dance company, and then ZOO, Thomas Hauert's dance company.

She also worked several times with Fabián Barba, an Ecuadorian dancer and choreographer who studied in Brussels at the dance school P.A.R.T.S. and also worked with Thomas Hauert. She further danced in some productions made by director Inne Goris for children, and in a production by videast/musician Walter Verdin.

With Marc Vanrunxt, Samantha made the short film Cérémonie in the series (based on a true story) in 2021.
