Maria Komarova & PPP

The project emphasizes an economy of listening and music-making, advocating for the use of simple and recycled means - found objects, analogue electronics, and lo-fi audio equipment. Confronting the imperfections of our chosen materials, as well as our own (lack of) knowledge about their properties, we integrate play, failure and joy into our research. In the current phase of our project, we are developing a modular multichannel setup consisting of assemblages of electret microphone capsules, amplifier boards and speakers. Its portability allows for what we call "performative roo(u)ting", meaning an act of moving objects and sound in space. Here we aim to eliminate the use of the omnipresent mixing console and propose a decentralized network of scattered objects, designed for real-time capturing, reproduction and spatialization of sound.

The setup becomes an ecosystem with the possibility of multiple settings, each corresponding to a situation linked to a specific soundscape. Each act will be performed by the objects, while our focus will be directed towards facilitating their behavior by adjusting the space and the technology. By adapting the settings to architecture and geometry of a certain space, we create a micro foley studio, where the soundtrack for an imaginary documentary is produced in real-time.

Maria Komarova is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice is situated on the borders of performing arts, scenography, sound and installation art. She is interested in creating spatial settings that foster a sense of curiosity and attention toward everydayness. By staging and technically repurposing commonplace objects, Komarova’s works emphasize sonic and visual potential of the non-human world. Working with sound as a performative medium, she continuously develops DIY electro-acoustic objects and lets them temporarily inhabit the sites of performances and installations. During the past years, her work has been presented internationally at such festivals and venues as Oscillation, Archipel, Rewire, Reveil, Sonic Acts, Lisboa Soa, STUK (as part of Beyond Music: #5) among others. Komarova is a cofounder of a Prague-based assotiation di.pole, z.s., theatre collective PYL and Performensk festival (formed in Minsk, currently in exile)

Pierre Pierre Pierre is a self-taught sound artist interested in dysfunctional electronics and situations. Plays with hand-made electronics, common and cheap hi-fi devices, audio synthesis coding software. Collaborating amongst other artists with Clinch (AV2), Will Guthrie (WAV2), Rui Leal (RRR), Mariane Moula (Prana Cotta), Aurélie Percevault (Smokeshow)... His work was presented along the years in France, Portugal, Indonesia, Japan, Belgium, and published by Amateur, Fougère musique, Biome Tapes. (Ex)-Member of Cable#, experimental music festival, and Mire, experimental cinema collective and organisation, in Nantes, France. With La Méandre collective and the company Veiculo Longo, PPP is participating in shows and projects for streets and public space. As member of the informal Concerts Dispersés collective, he is involved the organization of off-grid events and performances in the center of France. PPP is running 50hz, setting up events for experimental arts in various places.
