• Hatis Noit
(live)

Japanese vocalist Hatis Noit (stem of the Japanese lotus flower) wows every audience with her phenomenal voice and acrobatic vocal technique. She can sing opera, yodel, growl deeply, make soundscapes and create hypnotising compositions - using only her vocal chords. Her fascination for the voice arose came to fruition when, aged 16, she heard a Nepalese monk’s chant. Since that day, she has been inspired by Gagaku (Japanese classical music), Gregorian and Bulgarian chants, avant-garde (Meredith Monk) and pop (Björk). In her live performances she plays with the acoustics of the space and moves around like a dancer - hence the choice for the wonderfully echoing KADOC chapel. David Lynch is a fan of Hatis Noit - are you next?

KADOC is the Interfaculty Documentation and Research Centre on Religion, Culture and Society at KU Leuven. It is a cultural archive, certified by the Flemish government, specialised in a safe conservation, optimal management, dynamic access and scientific research of historical heritage of religion, as far at it impacts culture and society.

KADOC manages archives, publications and audiovisual material of several religious congregations and orders (such as the Jesuits and friars minor), political parties and civil society organisations (such as the Christian labour movement and the farmers’ union), youth movements (like Chiro and KAJ), cultural organisations (like Davidsfonds) and educational institutions (like the Sint-Lucas schools), but also private persons (politicians, writers, artists, …). KADOC’s research results in a.o. Publications and exhibitions. KADOC also has its own heritage magazine called Koorts.

KADOC is housed in the former friars minor monastery with late baroque chapel, the Our Lady of the Fever Chapel. The chapel was completed in 1730 and used to be a Marian pilgrimage site. It was purchased in 1860 by the Franciscans, who built a convent next to it. The complex was taken over by KU Leuven in 1986, and four years later KADOC installed their offices, reading room and depot there. The chapel is currently in restoration. Around 1940, the smaller Laporta chapel (named after architect Frans Laporta) was added on the left hand side, allowing for Fathers to host their individual mass.
