Jazz op zondag — fall 2023

Jazz op zondag is finally back in good old STUKcafé! We've been away for quite a while due to renovation works, but the recipe remains unchanged: almost every Sunday there's a free jazz concert or dj set in the most beautiful café of Leuven. We welcome you four times a month: twice with a live concert, once with a night curated by LUCA Jazz (with a jam session) and once with a dj set. Additions to the programme will follow throughout the next weeks, so keep an eye on this page.

FUTURE CONCERTS

Helga Ameye
Su 26.11.23 21:00

Helga Ameye takes a new approach to jazz. Together with Stanzi Cresens (cello), Wodan Onkelix (piano), Tuur Geldhof (bass) and Toon Putteman (drums), Helga looks for new atmospheres with a mix of re-worked jazz standards and own compositions that meander between indie, jazz and melodrama. With sensual riffs and smooth vocals she puts together a world where musical craftsmanship and candid songwriting meet.

Dishwasher_
Su 3.12.23 21:00

Dishwasher_ is a musical trio from Ghent established in 2019. Not limited to one specific genre, they experiment with tons of styles to create their contemporary sound. In April 2023 they released a self-titled debut via Sdban Ultra: a uniquely diverse yet coherent collection of groove-oriented songs. Despite being more than a jazz band, improvisation and a free spirit are key to their music. Arno Grootaers, Werend Van Den Bossche and Louise van den Heuvel experiment with structures and textures, letting influences from electronic music and elements from Middle Eastern and Balkan music seep in as well as hints of dance, hiphop and even metal.

LUCA Jazz
zo 10.12.23 21:00 - 0:00

STUK invites the jazz department of LUCA School of Arts for a concert and jam session in STUKcafé.

The jazz department of LUCA - Campus Lemmensinstituut in Leuven is a small but dynamic department of one of the four Flemish institutes for higher music education. The evening opens with a performance by the students, followed by an open jam.

This is the Omen
zo 17.12.23 21:00

With a powerful mix of jazz and electronica, This is the Omen creates a progressive, danceable sound that is rooted in past traditions. Hailing from the bubbling Brussels jazz scene, they bring their spiritual, trance-like sound to Leuven with heavy bass lines, exciting drums and energetic melodies. Their inspiration comes from artists like The Comet is Coming and Floating Points. Drop by for a groovy, danceable final jazzy Sunday of the year before we go into hibernation and return with a new programme in January.
