• Suzanne Ciani
(Live concert in 4DSOUND)

Legendary synthesizer pioneer Suzanne Ciani brings an exclusive live show in four-dimensional sound. Known as the ‘diva of the diode’ (a component of the synthesizer), Ciani has been creating electronic music since the 1960s. The five-time Grammy Award nominated composer gained additional fame in 2020 thanks to the documentary Sisters With Transistors and, at age 77, still tours the world for live shows. Her unique approach to composition and sound design has inspired countless musicians over the years. Don't miss this opportunity to see one of key figures in electronic music history live at work.

Before the concert, musicologist and composer Natasha Pirard will go in dialogue with Suzanne Ciani. This Q&A will take place at 19:00 in the Verbeeckzaal (just 1 floor below the Studio).

• Thomas Ankersmit
(Listening session in 4DSOUND, the artist does not play live)

Thomas Ankersmit is a musician and sound artist based in Berlin and Amsterdam. He plays the Serge Modular synthesizer, both live and in the studio. Ankersmit collaborates with artists such as Phill Niblock and Valerio Tricoli, and has released work on labels like Shelter Press, PAN and Touch. His music combines raw electric power with intricate sonic detail. The physical effect of sound and the spatial experience are central.

• Oren Ambarchi — Shebang
(Listening session in 4DSOUND, the artist doesn’t play live)

Extended guitar hero Oren Ambarchi released in 2022 his well acclaimed album Shebang on the label Drag City. The work features an international all-star cast of musical luminaries, with besides Ambarchi also Chris Abrahams (piano), Johan Berthling (acoustic bass), BJ Cole (pedal steel), Sam Dunscombe (bass clarinet), Jim O'Rourke (synths), Julia Reidy (12-string guitar) and Joe Talia (drums). Their contributions have been recorded individually in locations from Sweden to Japan yet threaded together so convincingly (by Ambarchi in collaboration with Konrad Sprenger) that it’s hard to believe they weren’t breathing the same studio air. Shebang is one long ecstatic flow of improvisation, somewhere between minimalism, contemporary electronics, and classic ECM jazz style. It is unmistakably the work of Oren Ambarchi: obsessively detailed, relentlessly rhythmic, unabashedly celebratory.
