The Island
Audiovisual duo Franck Vigroux & Kurt d’Haeseleer paint dystopian images of the future
The audiovisual concert The Island is the most recent collaboration between French composer Franck Vigroux and Leuven-based video artist Kurt d'Haeseleer. Their immersive experience is inspired by dystopian stories of islands and valleys that flood after the construction of hydropower dams, with large-scale human and geographical upheavals as a result. Building the Three Gorges Dam in China, the world's largest hydroelectric power station, has even influenced the rotation speed of our planet. The Island questions this blind belief in progress, at the expense of everything. The result is a mental trip past mutating places with intense electronic sounds and reality bending visuals.
